Ciao!

Welcome to Skyler and Giuseppe’s Newsletter, a space for all things delicious, Italian, olive oily, inspiring, and whatever else is worth mentioning.

A bit about us… We’re married. Giuseppe is a 3rd generation olive oil producer originally from Calabria, Italy. My background is in architecture and I’m originally from Oakland, California. I’m also the main writer and narrator of these newsletters.

We own and operate a brand called EXAU Olive Oil and are (soon to be) published authors. We’re based in Calabria and Austin, Texas.

This is a reader-supported publication. We invite you to become a free or paid subscriber!

Why we started this newsletter

Running an e-commerce business and being a creative writer is hard and can feel conflicting.

When I used to log into our old CRM (newsletter platform) it felt like I was only writing to sell to people. Uninspired, I was over it.

I want to write because I enjoy it. And I want to share all of the delicious and beautiful things we see, make, and eat with others.

Making the switch to Substack was a breath of fresh air. We, of course, include lots of olive oil in just about every newsletter, because well, it’s an integral part of our lives and we consume copious amounts of it every single day. Read more about why here.

We also wrote a book about olive oil, but more on that later…

What started off as a simple olive oil-centered newsletter has grown into a space where we share incredible recipes (many from Giuseppe’s family), life lessons, stories, and beautiful places. We even revisit lost memories/trauma and talk about hard things.

This is really just a place where we put all the things worth mentioning, many of which are beautiful and delicious.

Where we brag

We founded our company EXAU Olive Oil in 2017 and exclusively produce high-quality extra virgin olive oils using olives grown on family-owned estates (including our own) in Calabria, Italy.

Our brand blew up in the best way possible in 2020. We’ve been featured in Forbes, Oprah’s Favorite Things, The New York Times, Conde Nast, La Cucina Italiana, Buzzfeed, Food52, and so many more.

We ship nationwide in the US and Canada! And you can find us in Crate & Barrel.

Get olive oil

We’re the authors of The Olive Oil Enthusiast, a book that took 2 years to write. It’s a guide from tree to table and everything we wished we could tell our friends and customers about olive oil over the past 7 years...

We also do consulting:

  • For folks (like you!) wanting to travel to southern Italy.

  • For food industry people looking for a culinary adventure/inspiration in southern Italy.

  • For small businesses looking to get their financials in order, especially when it comes to 3PLs, we don’t talk about that in our newsletter though.

Contact us for more info.

Why should you go paid?

We have a paid version of our newsletter which includes more of everything, with an emphasis on recipes. Also, in case you’re wondering. None of our work/brand is backed by VC firms or angel investors, it’s just us : )

A paid subscription is $5.55 per month or $60 per year, you receive 10% off if you decide to join for a full year. You can also gift and donate subscriptions! Or buy them for a group : )

Support our work and receive all kinds of fun stuff like…

  • Early access to new products

  • Full recipes and new kitchen experiments

  • Travel to Calabria and southern Italy updates

  • Information about olive oil (usually health focused)

  • Deep chats, wise words from elderly Italians, and other things worth mentioning

If you’re unable to pay for a subscription at this time please email us hello@exauoliveoil.com.
