Welcome back. We’ve revived the paid version of our newsletter. EXAU olive oil club members you’re in for free : )
They were right. Autumn truly is the best time of year to visit Umbria. It also is my favorite time of year but it’s tough to travel since Oct/Nov is olive harvest. So sneaking away for a few days was quite nice.
A delightfully unexpected meeting
Giuseppe and I set out from Calabria pretty early. It’s about an 8 hour drive up to Todi, made even longer due to the fact that we like to stop for coffee/snacks.
The sun was just beginning to set when we arrived to Todi, washing the medieval city in a warm amber light. We pulled up the gravel road to the B&B and went to check in. I was halfway to the frontdoor when a woman asked “Do you own an olive oil company?” followed by “Is it called EXAU?”. As I looked to her in surprise she explained she was an olive oil club member and I nearly had to pick my jaw up off the floor. And that’s how I knew we were in the right place.
What a small wonderful world this is.

Where to stay
We had the pleasure of staying at Lisbeth and Thomas’ lovely B&B, Il Ghiottone Umbro. It came highly recommended by friends and rightly so. The location is perfect, just a 10 minute walk below Todi. The views from the property are stunning and you can watch the sun sinking into the Umbrian hills. It’s like something out of a book. The breakfasts are also incredible. Overall it’s a very comfortable stay and we can’t wait to go back.
