A Poetic Summer In Calabria 💫
Calabrian Summer
This week's newsletter is brought to you by Giuseppe. It's a love note to his beloved Estate Calabrese (Calabrian Summer).
The colors and scents in Calabria are more intense. The flowers have blossomed leaving room for the fruit to grow. The first bites of summer fruit are ready to be tasted, and the clouds give way to the sensations of warm peaceful days filled with the scent of dry grass, sweet peach, and that deeply satisfying occasional breeze.
For our beloved little trees, time still passes inexorably slowly. The thrill of seeing the fruit set is inescapable. Summer is a manifestation of the olive fruit. The heat intensifies, making the earth almost shimmer. In our groves, you can breathe the refreshing scent of the Ionian. Waiting for the melodies of crickets and cicadas that, like a music box, will rock and accompany the growth of our fruits on summer’s days and nights.Â
During the Summer, Calabria fills with people. Our country lights up with life and joy. It’s as if Calabria dances, eats, laughs, jokes, and drinks the good Calabrese wine of Ciro. During these months the most delicious dishes are based on seafood, served raw or with pasta. For the most demanding, awaits sea urchins, a delight that contains the most intense scents the sea can offer.
The golden, red, and black beaches of Calabria provide the opportunity to be spoiled with ample choices. The most daring place themselves on the cliffs above the Ionian where they perform acrobatic dives. Some dive deep and try their hand at hunting for sea urchins or sea limpets.
The celebration of the typical provincial cuisines begins to fill the stomachs of the most arduous people with challenging palates. All accompanied by the notes of Calabrian tarantella music and dance.
Summer in Calabria is the gift that in life will never fade and every moment feels eternal.

I'm not crying, you're crying. And it appears you now need to book a flight to Calabria to eat, drink, and swim. All of which we fully support.
